My Solo RPG Journey: Status Update #7
Another pit stop along the path.
Hey there imaginary readers and general gremlins and goblins! Today is a bit special, although Cloudflare being down has made writing this a pain in the arse.
First, today marks 3 months since starting this journey here on Substack. And I have hit a subscriber milestone of sorts:
I most certainly did not expect such a response to my work. When I started this, I fully expected to be unnoticed as usual, but somehow the way I have done things and continue to do things has resonated with a lot of you.
So thank you, truly.
Today our status update is mostly going over my future plans for the substack.
First, my Overview / Review posts are going to slow down, and I most likely won’t post a new one till 2026. It’s the holiday season and that is a big part of this, of course, but it’s a bit more then that. The burnout has lessened for me, but I am still fighting it, and my brain has been balking at trying to break down and understand new game rulesets. So I aim to give it a break for a while. Mind you I have plenty to cover (hell I just got the Vaesen Starter Box Set from Free League in the mail, unboxing soon) so there will be more in the future. It’s more just a need to relax myself.
And relax I am with Riftbreakers.
I have now, as of today, posted 4 entries in my new Riftbreakers AP with Tella as the main character. And if I am being honest, I have a total of 16 entries written for Tella as of right now, and I am writing even more going forward. This game, it has me in a grip I have not experienced in a very long time.
And keep in mind each entry takes me anywhere from 3 hours to 6 hours to write, format, and play through. So that is 40+ HOURS of Riftbreakers with no signs of slowing down.
Even with me planning to release 2 entries a week going forward, I have something like 7 more weeks as of right now to go before I run out.
Importantly however, I am not writing these entries to satisfy some need for “content” on the substack. No.
I am writing and playing because I genuinely enjoy it. I am having an absolute blast with the game and the stories I am telling using it. Even if no one but me wanted to read these I would still be doing them, but I know people seem to read and enjoy them so I appreciate that.
And playing Riftbreakers has been helping with my burnout. It’s giving me an outlet to get some creative thoughts out and it’s also relaxing. Even when my dice rolls absolutely enrage me, I still keep coming back. There have been times where I will stop a session, relax for an hour or two, and then start a new session and continue playing in the same day.
I will give you all a bit of a spoiler though (just for those who subscribe to the substack, really): I have a new character that I am playing now instead of Tella. Tella goes up to Entry 16, and then things change. I am not going to say who they are or what they are doing, but they have an actual theme, goal, and a lot of fun ideas to go along with them. They are still in the same “universe” as Tella and Keld are though, so expect returning characters and things.
Anyway I just wanted to post something on my 3 month anniversary to say thank you and to lay out future plans.
Till next time everyone!

Excellent news about riftbreakers - it's on my 'to play' list but hasn't made it yet. Im very much enjoying reading your playthroughs though!
Glad Riftbreakers is helping. Love that!
